The Lion Cascade Fountain

Peterhof is a beautiful and fairy suburb of St. Petersburg.

This postcard show the Lion Cascade Fountain in the Peterhof Palace.

The Palace itself is recognized as a UNESCO World of Heritage Site.

In the beginning, Niccolo Michetti (the architect) made the structure in 1720 but he failed. Andrei Voronikhin realized the palace cascade.

The cascade is place between he Birch and Marly avenue. Eight vases and the figure of Hiracles and Flora were mounted at the low pedestal. A year later the two were replaced by two guarding lions.
Streams of water from the vases flowed down into the upper pool and then by the steps to the lower pool.

Thanks Vladimir
